FREDERICTON, N.B., September 7th, 2016 – Thousands of people are expected at farms across New Brunswick for Open Farm Day 2016 on Sunday, September 18th, as participating farmers open their doors to the public.
Fifty-five participating farms located throughout the province will be opening their doors to the public. Visitors of all ages will be able to get up close to farm animals, watch cows being milked, pick fruit, learn how food is produced, learn about farming practices, sample wine, view horseback riding demonstrations, take wagon rides, and even compete in a hay bale throwing competition. Visitors will also see parts of farming that don’t immediately come to mind when they think about agriculture such as new technologies and practices.
Quick Facts
2016 is the event’s 16th year anniversary. The event is organized by the Agricultural Alliance of NB and is kindly sponsored by the province of New Brunswick. Last year, the primary agriculture sector already generated $563 million in farm cash receipts and exported to more than 70 countries.
“Open Farm Day is the perfect opportunity to learn about food production in New Brunswick by visiting participating farms, take part of many fun activities, meet producers and ask them questions on how they produce the high quality food they offer. It’s an amazing day where people of all ages learn where their food comes from and join us to celebrate the New Brunswick agriculture industry. The Agricultural Alliance of NB is very fortunate to have many sponsors that help us organize the event”. – Mike Bouma, Agricultural Alliance of NB President
