December – Waygood Farm
Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Lower Queensbury, NB, Waygood Farm stands as a testament to the dedication of Coady and Jaeson Waygood. Since its establishment in 2018, this family-owned endeavor has been revitalizing an old apple orchard, ushering in a new era with a transition from traditional trees to a modern trellis system reminiscent of a vineyard.
November – Grant’s Breeder Farm
For November’s farm of the month feature, we are delighted to introduce Grant’s Breeder Farm, a remarkable family-owned agricultural enterprise that has been captivating the hearts of locals for nearly two decades.
October – La fleur du pommier
La Fleur du Pommier is an apple orchard located in Cocagne, NB. It was founded in 1978 and is currently owned by three local families. For decades we’ve been a popular spot for families to come pick apples in the fall and we take pride in our ability to provide fresh products for the community. We have over 30 varieties of apples which we keep fresh all year round with controlled atmosphere rooms.
September – Brigadoon Fiber Farm
Nestled within the picturesque landscape of Hoyt, New Brunswick, Brigadoon Fiber Farm has been a labor of love since its establishment in 2015. Rooted in a military family’s unique journey, the farm has grown into a haven where the threads of family, friendship, and community interweave to create a vibrant tapestry of life.
August – Cooke Aquaculture
Welcome to one of Cooke Aquaculture’s salmon farms, nestled near Simpsons Island, New Brunswick, in the breathtaking Bay of Fundy. With a history spanning over 30 years, this farm was established by a family from Deer Island and stands as one of the earliest salmon farms in the region.
July – Lo-hi Farm
Lo-Hi Farm, a fifth-generation farming operation established in 1932, is located in Sunbury County, Hoyt, New Brunswick. The farm is known for its picturesque setting of sprawling fields and rolling hills, with iconic old barns atop Kirkpatrick Hill on Route 101.
June – MOWI Atlantic Salmon Farm
Allene Barrett is the area manager of a group of Atlantic salmon farms in the Bay of Fundy, including this farm in Harbour de Lute off the coast of Campobello Island, New Brunswick. She has been a part of the aquaculture industry since 1983. Under the ownership of Mowi, the farm consists of 12 net pens and a state-of-the-art feeding system.
May – Open Sky Co-operative
Open Sky Co-operative was founded in 2011 as a community-based charitable organization that provides transitional support for adults who experience barriers due to disability, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or mental health challenges. They sit on 11 acres just outside Sackville, NB, and are home to two donkeys, one goat, and about 40 chickens.
April – Fromagerie au fond des bois
Didier Laurent has been the owner of a goat farm/cheese factory for almost 11 years now, called Fromagerie au fond des bois. It’s not a family business, but it will be once his children (who are still too young) take over.
March – Jolicure Farm
Jolicure Farm is a small off grid market farm using organic and regenerative farming practices – they officially registered as a farm in 2020. The electricity used by the farm is generated by solar photovoltaics and a wind turbine. Owner Elita Rahn runs Jolicure Farm, a 2-acre field crop enterprise with a greenhouse and cold frames, with some summer assistance from a few local students.
February – Local Valley Beef
Local Valley Beef is a first-generation enterprise, purchased in 2003. The farm is entirely owned and operated by owners Cedric & Alanda MacLeod, and more recently, their son Kalen MacLeod. Local Valley Beef started as a small grain-oilseeds production model with a small cow-calf operation, but BSE forced the evolution of the cow production model and the farm transitioned to a full grass-fed beef operation.
