Nestled within the picturesque landscape of Hoyt, New Brunswick, Brigadoon Fiber Farm has been a labor of love since its establishment in 2015. Rooted in a military family’s unique journey, the farm has grown into a haven where the threads of family, friendship, and community interweave to create a vibrant tapestry of life.

Our devoted team, consisting of myself, my husband, and our trio of spirited children, pour our passion into every aspect of the farm’s operations. With a profound commitment to slow fashion, we embrace the art of taking raw materials from our heritage breed sheep and prized alpacas and transforming them into exquisite, handcrafted textiles. From the first step in caring for our animals to the final stages of crafting textiles, each stage is a celebration of artistry and dedication.

Our animals, the heart and soul of our farm, serve as the foundation for our mission. We carefully breed them, not just to maintain their lineage but to elevate the quality of their fleece, which forms the cornerstone of our textile creations. This dedication to excellence is reflected in the exceptional quality of our yarns and the exquisite handwoven or knitted pieces they become.

However, our mission doesn’t remain confined within our farm’s boundaries. Guiding farm tours is a source of immense joy for us. Sharing the intricate journey of fleece production and its wide-ranging benefits with visitors, especially school groups, infuses our work with purpose and meaning. Watching young minds light up with curiosity as they interact with our animals or discover the magic of textiles is a reward beyond measure.

Reflection on our journey, I believe that the best time to for young aspiring farmers to start is now. Often, aspiring farmers wait for the “perfect” moment, delaying their dreams. But the truth is, every small step forward counts. Whether it’s growing a plant on a windowsill or absorbing farming knowledge, every action moves you closer to your goals.

Beyond the farm’s rustic gates lies our boutique, where the essence of Brigadoon comes to life. Welcoming visitors year-round from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM, or by appointment, our boutique showcases not only the fruits of our labor but the heart and soul poured into each creation. As a testament to our commitment to the larger crafting community, we actively participate in various fiber and craft fairs, including those organized by Craft NB. Our dedication to education extends to our classes in fiber and textile crafts held in our shop, with plans to introduce drop-in weaving sessions in the near future.
