FREDERICTON, NB: The Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick (AANB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mackenzie Roherty to the position of Bilingual Coordinator for Agriculture in the Classroom New Brunswick, effective April 6, 2025.

“We are pleased to welcome Mackenzie to the Agriculture in the Classroom New Brunswick (AITC-NB) team as the bilingual program coordinator. Working alongside the Agriculture in the Classroom Manager, Charlotte Flores, his strong background and networks in the New Brunswick education system will be a great asset in developing and delivering the many Agriculture in the Classroom program offerings in classrooms across the province,” says Anna Belliveau, CEO of the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick.

Mackenzie was born and raised in New Brunswick and graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He stayed on to complete a Bachelor of Education the following year.

Throughout his teaching career, Mackenzie has led a variety of high school subjects. In his most recent role, he focused on helping students explore post-graduation career paths. It was during this time he noticed a gap: agriculture—a key pillar of New Brunswick’s economy—was often overlooked as a viable career option.

In his new role as coordinator, he is responsible for overseeing the Little Green Thumbs and Little Green Sprouts programs, while supporting a range of initiatives aimed at promoting agricultural knowledge, awareness, and career opportunities throughout New Brunswick.

“One of my main goals in this position is to encourage teachers to increasingly promote jobs in the agricultural sector as viable career aspirations and equip them with the proper resources to engage students in learning about agriculture,” says Roherty.

As someone who grew up fully bilingual, Mackenzie is committed to supporting the equal development of resources and programs in both official languages to reach all students across the province’s two education sectors.

Funding for the Agriculture in the Classroom NB program is provided by the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a 5-year, $3.5-billion investment by federal, provincial and territorial governments to strengthen competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of Canada’s agriculture, agri‐food, and agri‐based products sector. This includes $1 billion in federal programs and activities and a $2.5-billion commitment that is cost-shared 60% federally and 40% provincially/territorially for programs that are designed and delivered by provinces and territories.

Agriculture in the Classroom NB is a program administered by the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick—the province’s largest general farm organization—dedicated to promoting the social and economic interests of all New Brunswick farmers.
