FREDERICTON, August 11, 2022 – The Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick (AANB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michelle Landry to the position of Agriculture in the Classroom New Brunswick Coordinator, effective June 27, 2022.

“We are pleased to welcome Michelle to the Agriculture in the Classroom New Brunswick (AITC-NB) team as the program coordinator. Her strong background and networks in New Brunswick education will be a great asset in developing and delivering the many Agriculture in the Classroom program offerings in classrooms across the province,” said Anna Belliveau, President and CEO of the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick.

Michelle pursued her post-secondary studies at the Université de Moncton to obtain her Bachelor of Education in 2004. She then held several teaching positions in the Restigouche and Chaleur regions, including teaching grades 4, 5, 7 and 8 (mathematics and science) as well as an additional position of responsibility as a numeracy mentor.

In September 2020, Michelle enrolled in the Cannabis Culture program at the CCNB Campbellton Campus. As part of the course, she obtained the health and safety certifications required by the horticulture industry as well as the Pesticide Applicator Certificate.

In March 2021, she was employed as a Cultivation Technician at HEXO Corp in Atholville, N.B. Her duties consisted of pruning and harvesting plants as well as repopulating the growing rooms.  She has also had the opportunity to gain knowledge in the organization’s Integrated Pest Management program, including the application of various chemical and biological (predator) pesticides.

By 2021, Michelle had become the new instructor for the Cannabis Culture program at NBCC Campbellton, the same program she had taken in September 2020.

“As a horticulturist, I recognize the inestimable value of the Canadian agri-food system and having explored the world of education as a teacher, I know how hands-on activities lead to sustainable learning. The coordinator position allows me to merge my two passions to develop programs that support sustainability!” says Michelle Landry, the new New Brunswick Agriculture in the Classroom Coordinator.

Funding for the Agriculture in the Classroom N.B. program is provided by the federal and provincial governments through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (administered by the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries) and the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour.

The Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick is the largest general farm organization in New Brunswick, promoting the social and economic interests of all New Brunswick farmers.
